The Opportunity
Paramount Pictures Information
Technology in Hollywood, Ca. has established aggressive growth
goals to upgrade the IT Data Center and create a Disaster Recovery
site for our parent company Viacom.
Our Information Technology Division
has a NEW opening for a Data Center Operations Manager to help
support this enormous undertaking. The Data Center Manager will
work closely with the Technology teams and assure all aspects
involved with the facilities and accompanying systems maintenance
(power, HVAC, cooling, etc.) are at optimum performance levels
to support the new installation as well as maintain integrity
in the current environment.
The Data Center Operations Manager
must be a focused and dedicated team player, capable of responding
to the changing business requirements. They will work as a hands
- on manager, planning & coordinating the substantial number
of infrastructure upgrades which will also require considerable
cross-functional coordination with both the Technology and studio
Facilities teams.
They will be working day-to-day
with the department heads locally and at Viacom main offices in
addition to external vendors. This is an extremely high visibility
position that demands someone with the ability to assess and plan
quickly and accurately, plan and meet project timetables and interact
effectively with many different levels of staff and management.
It is critical for the Data Center
Operations Manager to be able to operate independently of any
supervision or direction in an emergency situation. The Manager
must have the confidence and ability to make spur-of-the-moment
decisions to bring service back to our customers, while still
managing the overall effort and protection of the corporate goals.
The Company
One of the original major motion
picture studios, Paramount Pictures has been a leading producer
and distributor of feature films since 1912. Its 2,500-plus title
library boasts Oscar winners Braveheart and Forrest Gump, and
Titanic (the highest-grossing motion picture of all time) -- as
well as such classics as The Ten Commandments, Breakfast at Tiffany's
and Sunset Boulevard. In addition, several of the most successful
franchises in film history, including Mission: Impossible, Star
Trek, The Godfather and Indiana Jones, are part of the Paramount
Pictures library. Paramount also co-produces films with Nickelodeon
Movies and MTV Films, utilizing their expertise with specific
audiences.

Paramount aims to create a carefully balanced film slate that
represents a variety of genres, styles, and levels of investment-with
the goal of creating entertainment with worldwide appeal. Paramount
Pictures distributes its motion pictures on video and DVD in more
than 45 countries worldwide through Paramount Home Entertainment.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance of the corporate
data center environment supporting services essential to efficient
performance for all network infrastructure, servers, configurations,
security, backup strategies and network backplane and disaster
preparedness.
- Work as a team with IT management
& staff to assure processes and standards are maintained
during all operating system builds and hardware installs.
- Manage all data center inventory
and assets (over 500 servers). Maintains the process for accurate
inventory of infrastructure, including warranty, maintenance
contracts, and support contacts.
- Manage site preparation and
remodeling, electrical, network equipment (modems, servers, routers,
racks, cabinets), HVAC, power distribution, UPS, HALON, telecommunications
(phones).
- Management of service requests
for hardware/software deployment across multiple technology domains
(mainframe, midrange, desktop, and server).
- Operation, maintenance and repair
of power-generation, HVAC and all building/space control functions
within Paramount Pictures' IT Data Center environment.
- Coordinates and directs the
planning, maintenance, installation and alteration of firm's
HVAC systems, Power distribution system(s), Security system(s),
Fire detection and suppression, computer network wiring, lighting
and other factors.
- Inspects plant and evaluates
use of space and facilities. Develops written recommendations
regarding the most efficient and cost-effective infrastructure
solutions.
- Plans, budgets and schedules
facilities modification(s) including cost estimates, bid sheets,
layouts and contract for construction, acquisitions and facility
build-outs.
- Inspects construction and installation
progress to ensure conformance to established plans and specifications.
- Oversees and directs maintenance
personnel and workers engaged in equipment installation, facilities
equipment repair and preventive maintenance.
- Initiates and manages all contracts
and contract personnel performing any mechanical, plumbing, electrical
and general maintenance work to the building facilities and grounds.
Acquires bid pricing to additional work requirements and contract
renewals when needed.
- Develops & ensures compliance
of departmental specifications, policies, and standards to guide
the deployment of infrastructure (racks, servers, power, cooling,
cabling, etc.)
- Meets with various external
vendor representatives and acts as liaison to public utility,
environmental and energy agencies.
- Maintains all preventative maintenance
programs using a Maintenance Management System (MMS)
Schedules and coordinates periodic inspection and/or tests of
all systems including fire alarm, fire protection, security cameras,
boilers, elevators, electrical switchgear and emergency generators.
Plans and performs maintenance so as not to disrupt equipment
and services.
- Observes and enforces safety
rules and regulations, encourages safe work behaviors, and promptly
corrects conditions and unsafe behavior which may lead to accident.
- Prepares weekly status reports
regarding the status of projects and outlining any problems in
their expected completion.
- Responsible for keeping the
infrastructure element monitoring up-to-date, ensuring all systems
are monitored, handling requests to make changes to monitoring.
- Responsible for ensuring the
procedure for maintaining daily tape check-in, check-out logs
and year-end tape inventory.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in management
& plant maintenance of a large data center environment with
500+ servers and 24/7 operation raised floor critical environment,
including HVAC, UPS, electrical systems, emergency generators,
fire protection and security systems.
- 5+ years experience in IT Administration
including:
- Networks: LAN (Local Area Networks),
WAN (Wide Area Networks), routers, switches, hubs, cabling;
- Operating Systems: Windows NT
and 2003 Server, OS/2, Active Directory, UNIX/LINUX, Outlook
Exchange/Lotus Notes, backup systems.
- Back office Skills: Advanced
in Microsoft's (MS) Word, Excel; proficiency with MS Outlook,
PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Access, knowledge of AutoCAD helpful.
- Computer Hardware: Advanced
proficiency in the analysis, design, implementation and use of
server and desktop hardware.
- In-depth knowledge of power
distribution/electrical backup systems operations, maintenance,
repair.
- In-depth knowledge of large
HVAC system operations, maintenance, repair.
- Strong understanding of physical
security concepts and management. Understanding of vulnerability-assessments
and necessary corrections.
- Working knowledge of fire protection
codes, OSHA requirements, building and electrical codes.
- Ability to read and understand
blue prints, schematics and technical manuals
- Experience with Data Center
support and emergency generators; able to perform emergency generator
testing.
- Knowledge of safe working techniques
and procedures.
- Proven ability to plan and schedule
maintenance work requirements and to direct skilled labor in
the performance of their duties.
- Strong background in scheduling,
tracking, monitoring and preventative maintenance in all aspects
of facility functions.
- Financial acumen regarding budgeting,
estimating and planning required..
- Computer literacy essential.
- Must have the ability to manage
multiple projects and collaborate with varied teams in a very
dynamic environment and see the correlation of the individual
items and its impact on the "big picture".
- Excellent organizational and
project management skills are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication
skills are necessary to effectively communicate with technical
and non-technical parties.
- Ability to develop and maintain
collaborative relationships among all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrates willingness to
support team on all levels to get the job done.
- Capable of performing well in
a deadline sensitive environment. Adaptable to change.
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred,
will accept equivalent work related experience.
Other information
Paramount's hours are 9:00 AM
- 6:00 PM. The position may require longer hours depending on
the workload. You will work on site at the Hollywood studio lot;
limited travel may be involved.
